Our mission is to “Provide healthy food to hungry children, empowering them to succeed in the classroom and in their community.” We are committed to providing our community’s most vulnerable children with nutritious food. Our programs include: The Backpack Program: This program is specifically designed to put nutritious food right into the hands of hungry children. These kids receive 3 meals a day every weekend and over all school breaks. Farmer’s MarKid: A direct and hands on approach to improving the health of children in our community. We take free fresh fruits and vegetables to wherever kids need us. Food Farmacy: Children are screened for food insecurity right inside their doctor’s office. Children who are struggling with hunger are provided with a box of non-perishable food containing more than 25 strategic meals. Each child also receives a “prescription” for 15-20 pounds of fresh produce, meat, eggs, and wheat bread. Toddler Tummies: NourishNC partners with other nonprofits that serve children and their families. Nutritious food is sent right into the homes of 1-4 year old children who are under resourced and food insecure. Each child also receives a “prescription” for fresh food and produce.
