SEEDS of Healing, Inc.

SEEDS of Healing, Inc. (SOH) is a non-profit organization, firmly rooted in the Wilmington, NC community as an advocacy and action organization. SOH seeks to deconstruct myths that perpetuate fear and stigma and generate sustained support for Black and African American (BAA) women with diagnoses of HIV through awareness, assistance, advocacy, alliances, and education. SOH strategizes with organizations in this region to promote community wellness to support persons living with HIV. HIV is the fifth leading cause of death for BAA women between the ages of 35 – 44 and more than half (52%) of all new HIV cases in the US have occurred in the South (CDC, 2017). Also note, HIV affects those of lower socioeconomic status and impoverished neighborhoods at a disproportionately higher rate. Trends demonstrate the increased impact of the disease on women, minorities, older adults, rural residents and those living in the South. Our county’s hospital is the largest HIV provider in Southeast, North Carolina and provides HIV care to the neighboring rural counties. Because HIV Awareness and Prevention is not an agenda we promote often, we are asking you to consider getting involved to END THE EPIDEMIC.
