UWCFA Celebrates Andrea Troccia
About:
Andrea has been an active volunteer since moving to the Cape Fear Area and beginning work for Corning Credit Union (CCU) over 12 years ago. First introduced to the United Way through a workplace campaign, she continues to support our organization because she trusts us as a steward of donor dollars as well as our holistic approach to meeting the needs of our community.
Now Andrea is the Chair of our Campaign Cabinet and additionally serves on the following committees: Events, New Campaigns, and the Executive Cabinet Committee. She is involved with many local nonprofits in addition to the United Way of the Cape Fear Area and volunteers numerous times a month.
We’re grateful for her commitment to leading through service and value her efforts with UWCFA. We asked a few questions about her volunteer experience; read her responses below.
Why do you continue to support UWCFA?
The United Way is the only non-profit in our area that covers every need within our community. If you choose to give your treasure to the United Way, you can rest easy knowing that your money is going where it is needed most. They are also the first to step up when disaster strikes and I’ve seen firsthand how the entire United Way team put their own needs aside after Hurricane Florence to support those most in need.
How has volunteering had an impact on you?
It has helped me understand the importance of providing the opportunity for my team to regularly volunteer and fundraise.
Tell us about a time that was especially meaningful for you as a volunteer?
The most meaningful moments while volunteering are those spent directly with the people, families and kiddos that need our help and support. I would encourage everyone to prep and serve a meal at the Good Shepherd Center or to volunteer in the Market at Nourish NC. It’s only then that you fully understand the impact you can make and why giving your time, talent and treasure is so important.
What is your favorite volunteer role?
I particularly love volunteering with Step Up Wilmington. I’ve conducting interviews at CCU for years and to be able to use those skills to help others is so rewarding.
If could encourage someone else to volunteer, what would you say?
Step outside your comfort zone and remove any misconceptions you have about volunteering. If you give it a chance, you will see the difference that you can make by helping others, and it’s so meaningful.
Who inspires you?
My grandparents inspired me. They were always so kind and generous, and found ways to help those around them when in need. They did it in a way that helped others keep their dignity, which is what I admired most.
