UWCFA Celebrates Billy Smith
About:
Currently a Commercial – Middle Market Banker with First National Bank, Billy Smith is a career banker (only changing jobs once in his entire career) living in the Cape Fear Area since 1993. Around that same time, Billy was introduced to United Way through a workplace campaign and now continues to serve as a volunteer on multiple committees as well as being an active member of our Board of Directors. The UWCFA team can count on him to provide valuable input and insight, especially as a volunteer on our Planning and Investment Committee during scoring and funding discussions. Billy continues to support the UWCFA noting simply that it’s “The right thing to do.”
If you could encourage someone else to volunteer, what would you say?
The United Way of the Cape Fear Area has decades of experience matching employers -that encourage their workforce to be charitable with their time and dollars- with non-profits -that are successful in creating positive outcomes to make our community a better place to live. As a member of this community for over 30 years, I have seen a tremendous amount of growth and change which has been good but sometimes creates hardships for parts of our population. The work of the staff and volunteers of the United Way is not easy. There are always challenges when the organization has to both raise funds and allocate them to the community in an efficient and balanced manner to make a difference. I am very proud to be a part of the United Way because it has always been a stable organization that supports the community appropriately by leveraging philanthropy through its unique relationship with workplace campaigns and nonprofit organizations. Please consider lending your time, resources, funds or access to your workforce to help the United Way of the Cape Fear continue to help our community.
